Should you or should you not include a scholarship resume in your scholarship application packet?
I say, YES! 8)
A scholarship resume gives the scholarship judges a quick insight into YOU and your accomplishments. It should be a one page, neatly typed look at your achievements with the most current ones listed first. Your scholarship resume is one more way for you to let yourself shine in the eyes of the judges, so don't hold back! List your community service involvement, awards you've won (school, clubs, church, etc...), work experience, and any other achievement that you are proud of.
Another reason for taking the time to put together a scholarship resume is it allows the judges to see more of you than they would see if you had only filled out the scholarship application. What if there was no spot on the form for you to show that you have volunteered for the last 5 years helping children at your church's vacation bible school? List it on your scholarship resume and you have now shared with the judges a little more about who you are.
Make sure that your scholarship resume has your name, address, and phone number neatly typed at the top of the page. Don't make it more than one page! Use an easy to read font (Ariel is a good standard one) that is not too small. Trying to squeeze more information by using a smaller font will backfire on you when the judge who forgot his glasses gets frustrated while trying to read your scholarship resume. Carefully select which information you would like to include and make sure your most important accomplishments make it onto that one very important page about YOU, the potential scholarship WINNER.

Congratulations to Brad!! This 2010 high school senior has won 6 scholarships SO FAR. ![]()
His mom contacted me and said, "We are SO excited! We used the ideas in your scholarship guide and THEY WORK! At a dinner we had to attend to pick up one scholarship check, one of the judges told me that it was the way Brad's scholarship application was put together and presented that made it stand out and get chosen among the many that they had narrowed the stack down to. Thank you so much for sharing your ideas!"
I love hearing success stories like these! Do you have one to share? Please email me at mlm@how2winscholarships.com and let me know how many scholarships YOU have won.

Congratulations to Danielle!!! Her mom sent me this email today:
"Using tips from How to Win College Scholarships: A Guide for Parents in 10 Easy Steps, my high school senior secured scholarships to cover tuition, books and fees her first year in college. How exciting! No extra outlay of money for either she or I...her very important freshman year in college...allows her to focus completely on her studies. Staying organized listed as step #1 in the guide was essential. Completing all the lines and thinking of presentation as if she were acing a job interview helped immensely. Thank you, Monica, for putting together this thorough, inspirational and amusing guide. It's a masterpiece and it truly works! If we can do it, so can you!!!"

I was recently asked if there were any scholarships available for high school students who were not yet juniors or seniors. The answer is YES! ![]()
Check out these links:
Scholarships for high school FRESHMAN
Scholarships for high school SOPHOMORES
I'm always impressed with students and parents who are already looking for scholarships, even though they (or their student) are not yet high school seniors. GREAT JOB and GOOD LUCK!!!
