Recommended Scholarship Listing Books!

Posted by how2winscholarships at 10:59 AM on February 22, 2010 Comments comments (1)

I used these books when searching for scholarships for my son.  I truly believe that these kinds of resources are underused and overlooked by students these days!  We found scholarships in these scholarship listing books that were NOT found by any online search engine site that we signed up for.

You know what that means for these scholarships?

LESS students find them

LESS students apply

LESS competition for YOU

Which boils down to automatically GREATER chances of YOU winning the scholarship!

Write That Scholarship Essay!

Posted by how2winscholarships at 07:36 PM on February 16, 2010 Comments comments (0)

It's so tempting to spend your time and energy entering "promotional" scholarship drawings and contests.

Who has time to write essays, right??

WRONG!!

If you want to win college scholarships, you NEED to MAKE the time to write the essays that are required in most quality scholarship applications.  Most students back away from writing scholarship essays, so that makes your competition less and your chances of winning greater.  But wait!  There is more good news!  You can use many of your essays over again, in different scholarship applications!  Make sure you pay attention to word count though!  Let the judges get to know who you really are through your essay writing.  Here is an article that I wrote on this very subject:

My scholarship guide, "How To Win College Scholarships" will give you even greater detail about how to get into the minds of the judges and create a scholarship application that will stand out and get noticed!

FAFSA Deadlines!

Posted by how2winscholarships at 11:09 AM on February 10, 2010 Comments comments (0)

Did you know that the deadlines for filling out and filing your FAFSA forms to get STATE aid vary by what state you live in?

Did you know that different states have different dates in which they require your FAFSA to be filed by in order for you to be considered for STATE aid?

In other words, there is the date that the government wants you to file your FAFSA by AND the date that your state wants you to file your FAFSA by.  Sure, you can file your FAFSA by the government date only, but why would you do that when filing the same FAFSA form could get you state aid if you file it by the date required by YOUR state?

Is this making any sense?

Go here and it will all become clear to you:

Scholarship Judging!

Posted by how2winscholarships at 01:33 PM on February 05, 2010 Comments comments (0)

When I was doing my own personal scholarship research that helped my son win so many scholarships, I quickly realized how important it was to get into the mind of the scholarship judges and find out what they were looking for in choosing a winner.

What I learned is found in my scholarship guide, but here is a little taste:

Judges love to hear about how a scholarship applicant has faced a major hurdle or challenge in his or her life, but it is HOW they overcome this challenge that really helps them win a scholarship.  Let's face it, we've all had our own personal challenges, no matter how big or small they may be.  Scholarship judges don't just want to know that you have had a challenge, but EXACTLY what you did, how you felt, what you learned along the way, and the outcome of your challenge.

Let's look at the beginning of two different scholarship essays that are answering the question, "Why I deserve to win this scholarship:

1.  I deserve to win this scholarship because a few years ago I was very sick but somehow survived and now I need the money to go to college.  (yada, yada, yada....)

2.  I can still remember the smell of the hallway as my mom and dad said goodbye as the nurses wheeled me away and into surgery.  The questions floated around my semi-induced sleepy state of mind and again I wondered why I had to be the one to be diagnosed with leukemia.  It seemed like my life had turned into one painful fight after another, but slowly I could feel myself getting stronger and my will to live and overcome the unfairness of my situation started to change me.........

Can you see the difference between the two?  Can you FEEL the difference?  I can!  Put your heart and soul into your scholarship application essays!  Don't skim over important details of your life.  The judges want to know YOU and not just your name on the application.

I could go on and on here, but I won't.    You need to read my scholarship guide to find out other ways to get into the minds of the scholarship judges. I found out and would like to share them with you.

Go ahead and ORDER HERE, you'll be glad that you did!
