This past Saturday I went on a college visit with my high school junior. I loved our student tour guide and was excited to learn that she works in the admissions office. With social media and students being such a hot topic at the moment, I couldn't resist asking her if it was standard practice for the university to check students social media profiles in making admissions decisions. As of right now, she told me, the admissions office does not do this, BUT if you were to apply for any campus job, they most definitely DO.

Last week, an article I wrote on social media and students was published at 12Most.com. Have you read it? I highly recommend that you do and when you are done, pass the link along to any parents with college-bound and current college students, no matter how old their students are. Damage can very easily be done to the online reputation of any student and learning how to prevent it is priceless.
